YouTuber reveals possible first look at Nintendo Switch 2 with new magnetic Joy-Cons

YouTuber NerdNest reveals a possible dummy model of the Nintendo Switch 2, showcasing magnetic Joy-Cons, larger screen size, and new features.

Leaks and rumours surrounding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 have taken an exciting turn, as a YouTuber may have revealed the first hands-on glimpse of the next-generation console.

The popular channel NerdNest recently shared a video showcasing what seems to be a dummy model of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. According to the YouTuber, this model was provided by iVoler, a third-party accessory manufacturer, to help test new cases designed for the console. While the prototype isn’t the final product, it aligns closely with recent design leaks and has sparked interest among fans.

Hands-on with the Switch 2 dummy model

In the video, NerdNest unveils a sleek white model of the Switch 2. The first detail that catches the eye is its glass screen, resembling the premium look of the current Switch OLED. However, the most notable update lies in the Joy-Cons.

Unlike the slide-and-snap Joy-Cons of the original Switch, the new controllers attach magnetically to the sides of the screen. This redesign features a locking button on the back of each controller, adding extra security when attached. NerdNest demonstrated this feature, comparing it to the traditional mechanism while pointing out its alignment with leaked information from Dbrand.

One standout addition is a new ‘C’ button on the Joy-Cons, which could enhance functionality or gameplay options. This change has fans speculating about the console’s potential for improved controls and innovative game designs.

A larger design with potential challenges

Size-wise, the dummy model is noticeably bigger than the original Switch. NerdNest measured the screen to be around 7.9 to 8 inches diagonally, offering a more immersive experience. However, the console’s thickness remains the same as its predecessor, leading to concerns about potential overheating issues given the more powerful hardware expected in the Switch 2.

Despite the size increase, the design prioritises portability and familiarity, ensuring a smooth transition for fans of the original console.

Release timeline and backwards compatibility

Nintendo has not officially unveiled the Switch 2 yet, but a release date announcement is expected before the end of 2024. What’s already confirmed is that the new console will support backwards compatibility, allowing players to enjoy games from the original Switch.

This news has heightened anticipation among gamers, who are eager to see how Nintendo plans to innovate while retaining the elements that made the Switch a success.

For now, the NerdNest video offers an intriguing glimpse into the future of Nintendo’s handheld gaming. Whether this dummy model is an accurate representation or just a clever mock-up remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly added to the growing excitement.
