X set to recruit engineers in Japan, says CEO

Under CEO Linda Yaccarino, social media company X announces its plan to hire engineers in Japan to develop specialised app features and affordable advertising solutions.

In a recent development, Linda Yaccarino, the chief executive of social media company X, revealed plans to start hiring engineers in Japan. This announcement, shared in a post on Thursday, signals the firm’s strategic expansion in the Asian market.

Establishing a development team in Japan

Nikkei’s earlier report highlighted Yaccarino’s statement that X intends to commence engineering recruitment in 2024. The company’s focus is on setting up an app development team. This team will create features and advertise products specifically for the Japanese market, indicating a tailored approach to meet local needs.

Focusing on low-cost advertising solutions

The upcoming development team will prioritise designing a system for affordable advertising, targeting small and medium-sized businesses in Japan. This initiative aims to cater to the specific demands of these businesses, offering them accessible and cost-effective advertising options.

Overcoming recent challenges

Since Elon Musk acquired X in October 2022, the platform has struggled to retain its advertisers. Recent times have seen a significant withdrawal from major brands like Apple, Walt Disney, and Warner Bros Discovery. This retreat is attributed mainly to rising concerns over antisemitic content on the platform.

In response, Musk has issued a “full apology on the issue and full explanation,” as reported by Nikkei. Yaccarino also stated that X would reinforce its team in Japan to handle inappropriate content better, reflecting the company’s commitment to a safer and more responsible social media environment.
