Tesla is set to launch its fully upgraded V4 Superchargers next year, bringing faster charging speeds for electric vehicles (EVs) and even higher capabilities for its commercial Semi trucks. These new charging stations will support up to 500kW for EVs and a massive 1.2MW for the Tesla Semi, setting a new standard in charging technology.

Permits for these V4 Supercharger sites are already being processed, and they are expected to be operational by next year. These stations will feature advanced electronics that enable faster charging for Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck and compatible EVs from other manufacturers.
Improved speed and accessibility
Tesla began introducing V4 stalls in Europe and select locations in the US last year, but these were tied to the older V3 infrastructure, which only supports a maximum charging speed of 250kW. The upcoming V4 Superchargers will break past this limitation, offering double the charging speed and being a game-changer for EV owners who value efficiency.
The updated stalls have several enhancements, including physical payment terminals for easier transactions and longer charging cords. These longer cords are designed to prevent vehicles from obstructing neighbouring parking spots, a common issue with shorter cables. In addition, the stalls are equipped with CCS connectors, allowing EV drivers from other brands to charge without needing to bring their adapters.
This upgrade is particularly beneficial for owners of EVs from manufacturers like Porsche, Hyundai, and Kia, which currently experience slower charging speeds on Tesla’s V3 Superchargers due to their cars’ higher voltage requirements. The new technology is expected to improve charging compatibility and performance across various vehicles.
Optimised performance for all users
Tesla’s V4 cabinets are designed to be highly efficient and capable of powering up to eight stalls per unit. This efficiency allows for quicker deployment of new charging stations, helping to meet the growing demand for EV infrastructure.
The enhanced Superchargers will cater to Tesla vehicles and a wider audience of EV drivers, aligning with Tesla’s recent moves to open its charging network to non-Tesla EVs. With the launch of the Cybertruck on the horizon and the expansion of its commercial Semi truck programme, Tesla’s charging network upgrade comes at a pivotal time.
As EV adoption continues to rise, Tesla’s new V4 Superchargers promise to make charging faster, more accessible, and more convenient for all users, solidifying its position as a leader in the EV charging market.
