Sony unveils a fresh PS5 update with enhanced DualSense audio and screen-sharing features

Sony's latest PS5 update enhances DualSense audio, introduces interactive screen sharing features, and allows for brightness adjustment.

In a thrilling development for PlayStation enthusiasts, Sony has announced the rollout of an eagerly awaited PS5 system update. This latest enhancement, previously accessible to select testers, is now making its global debut, promising to significantly upgrade the gaming experience for PS5 owners worldwide.

DualSense controllers get a sound boost.

At the heart of this update is a substantial improvement to the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers. Sony has upgraded the firmware to amplify the output volume for in-game sounds and voice chats, ensuring that every explosion and whispered strategy comes through with crystal clarity. But the upgrades don’t stop there. The controllers’ microphones have been refined with a cutting-edge machine-learning model that expertly filters out background noise, such as the click-clack of buttons, allowing your voice to be heard loud and clear without distractions.

Screen sharing just got more interactive

Screen sharing on the PS5 has always brought friends into your gaming world, but now it’s been taken to a whole new level of interactivity. The latest update introduces pointers and emoji reactions to the mix. Imagine highlighting a hidden path or a crucial item with an instructional line drawn directly on the screen, making collaborative play more engaging. Plus, sending emoji reactions adds a fun, expressive way to communicate during a session, whether you’re cheering a friend on or celebrating a hard-fought victory together. And for those times when you need less on-screen clutter, these new features can be easily disabled.

Adding to the excitement, a PlayStation mobile app update is on the horizon, slated for release later this month. This will extend these innovative Screen Share interactions to iOS and Android users, making connecting with your gaming community more accessible.

Customise your console’s glow

Another thoughtful addition to this update is adjusting the brightness of your PS5 console’s power indicator. Recognising that gamers have different preferences, Sony has introduced three settings: dim, medium, and bright (the default setting), allowing for a more personalised gaming setup. Although completely turning off the power indicator isn’t an option, this new feature provides a welcomed degree of control over your gaming environment’s ambience.

This comprehensive update reflects Sony’s commitment to enhancing the gaming experience for its users. It introduces improvements in audio quality, social interactivity, and personalisation. As the update rolls out globally, PS5 owners can look forward to a more immersive, customisable, and connected gaming experience.
