Sony enhances its budget earbuds: Smaller, lighter, and more affordable

Discover Sony's new budget-friendly WF-C510 earbudsโ€”smaller, lighter, and packed with features, available for pre-order now at just US$59.99.

Sony has launched a new budget-friendly pair of wireless earbuds, the WF-C510, as a successor to the highly regarded WF-C500. This latest offering aims to deliver an excellent audio experience at an even more accessible price point while introducing key design and feature improvements.

Compact design for a comfortable fit

Sony has made noticeable changes to the WF-C510โ€™s design, making it smaller and lighter than its predecessor. According to the company, these earbuds are โ€œ20 percent smaller and 15 percent lighter than the WF-C500.โ€ This redesign has resulted in what Sony claims to be its smallest closed-type earbuds to date. The compact nature of these earbuds is not just about aesthetics; it also contributes to a more secure and comfortable fit, thanks to an “ergonomic surface design” that ensures they stay in place during use.

The improvements donโ€™t stop at the earbuds themselves. Sony has also updated the charging case, making it thinner and easier to carry in your pocket or a small bag. Despite the size reduction, the WF-C510 earbuds still manage to pack in many new features, proving that sometimes, smaller is better.

Enhanced features and performance

The WF-C510’s battery life has seen a slight boost. It offers up to 11 hours of playback time on a single charge, or up to 22 hours when using the charging case. This should be more than sufficient for a dayโ€™s worth of listening, although, as with any device, the actual battery life may vary depending on your usage and the features you have enabled.

One of the standout features of these earbuds is the inclusion of Sonyโ€™s DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), which helps to optimise both low and high frequencies, ensuring that the audio output remains well balanced. If you enjoy an immersive audio experience, youโ€™ll be pleased to know that 360 Reality Audio is also supported, providing spatial listening that makes you feel like youโ€™re in the middle of the action.

Customisation is another area where the WF-C510 shines. You can fine-tune the sound with custom EQ profiles by connecting the earbuds to the Sony Headphones Connect app. Switching between devices is made easy, too, thanks to the Multipoint Connection feature, which allows the earbuds to connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. This is particularly handy if you often need help with your phone and laptop.

Practical and user-friendly

Sony understands the importance of staying aware of your surroundings, especially when youโ€™re out and about. The WF-C510 earbuds come equipped with Ambient Sound Mode, which lets in outside noise so you can stay alert to whatโ€™s happening around you. For those moments when you need to hear conversations clearly, the โ€œVoice Focusโ€ feature enhances vocal clarity while blocking out background noise.

The earbuds are also rated IPX4 for water resistance, making them suitable for use during workouts or in light rain. With Fast Pair technology, you can quickly and easily connect the WF-C510 to your devices, reducing the setup hassle.

One thing to note is that, like the WF-C500, these new earbuds do not include active noise cancellation, which may be a consideration for some users. However, with a price tag of just US$59.99, the WF-C510 offers tremendous value, especially considering the quality and features packed into such a small device.

The WF-C510 wireless earbuds are available for pre-order on Sonyโ€™s official website and Amazon. They are priced at US$59.99, even more affordable than the WF-C500 when it was first released. You can choose from three coloursโ€”black, white, and yellowโ€”with shipping from Amazon expected on September 2. If you order directly from Sony, shipping begins on September 9, with an exclusive baby blue colour option available only through their website.
