Sharing passwords with your Google family group just got easier

Google now allows users to securely share passwords within their family group, improving access to shared services like Netflix.

Google has introduced a new feature that lets you share passwords with members of your family group securely, making it simpler for everyone in your household to access shared services such as Netflix. This feature is part of the Google Play services update for May 2024, as reported by Android Authority.

The new feature applies to passwords stored in Google Password Manager, which is the service that saves your passwords and passkeys in Chrome and Android, all linked to your Google account. Currently, the feature works on mobile devices but not yet on Chrome for desktops. When you share a password with a family member, it will be saved in their Google Password Manager.

Limitations and alternatives

This feature can only be used with members of your Google family group, which can have up to six people. If you need to share a password with someone outside your family group, you will have to use Nearby Share to transfer it in person or use other methods that may not be as secure. Google’s new feature is designed to make it easier to manage shared accounts within families while maintaining security and convenience.
