Samsung delays One UI 7 update until Galaxy S25 launches in 2025

Samsung will delay the release of One UI 7 until 2025. It is set to launch alongside the Galaxy S25 and features a complete redesign and new personalisation tools.

Samsung has confirmed that its much-anticipated One UI 7 update, a fresh take on its Android interface, will not arrive until the release of the Galaxy S25 series. This news was shared during the Samsung Developer Conference 2024 (SDC 2024) held in San Jose, where the company provided a detailed glimpse into whatโ€™s coming.

If youโ€™re a Samsung user looking forward to the new update, you must wait longer than usual. Samsung typically rolls out its One UI updates sooner, but this time, itโ€™s holding back until 2025. Letโ€™s take a closer look at whatโ€™s in store.

One UI 7 will bring a new design

During the conference, Jeong Hyesoon, Samsungโ€™s Executive Vice President and Head of Framework R&D in the Mobile Experience department, talked about One UI 7. The keynote presentation, starting at the 22:18 mark, highlighted key changes that will come with the update.

One of the main changes you can expect is a complete interface redesign. Samsung is focussing on simplicity and better organisation, and this new look aims to provide a cleaner and more user-friendly experience. A notable addition to One UI 7 is the Home Screen Grid feature, which works alongside Good Lock personalisation. Youโ€™ll be able to customise your home screen more freely without worrying about cluttering it.

Samsungโ€™s emphasis on personalisation means youโ€™ll have more control over how your device looks and works. This could be a big win for those who like to tweak their settings and make their phones their own.

Release date and what to expect

Samsung announced that a beta version of One UI 7 will be available later this year. However, the official release of the update wonโ€™t happen until 2025. It will coincide with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, which is also set to arrive that year.

Users of older Samsung devices wonโ€™t get their hands on One UI 7 until the Galaxy S25 hits the market. While this might be disappointing, it confirms that Samsung is following its usual pattern of rolling out major updates with its new flagship phones.

The delay in the release timeline is unusual for Samsung, but it also gives the company more time to refine the update. With such a significant redesign on the horizon, itโ€™s clear that Samsung wants to get it right.

Looking ahead to more Samsung innovations

While One UI 7 was a highlight of the conference, the keynote also touched on other areas of innovation, especially in Samsungโ€™s broader ecosystem. If youโ€™re an app developer interested in Samsungโ€™s other products, the conference offered plenty. Topics like AI advancements for home appliances and changes to Samsungโ€™s various platforms were discussed, pointing to a future where your Samsung devices become even more integrated and intelligent.

Although One UI 7 is still some time away, itโ€™s shaping to be a major update. Samsung users can look forward to a cleaner, more customisable experience, but patience will be key as the launch wonโ€™t happen until the Galaxy S25 hits the shelves in 2025.
