Rumoured camera specs for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro have been revealed

Discover the latest iPhone 16 camera upgrades, including new orientations, macro photography, and improved ultra-wide and telephoto lenses.

You might be excited to hear that new details have emerged about the camera systems on the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models. According to information reportedly leaked to AppleInsider, these cameras are set to receive some notable upgrades that could enhance your photography experience.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: Updated camera orientation and performance

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to keep their dual-camera setup, but with a small yet significant change. Instead of the current diagonal arrangement, the cameras will now be stacked vertically, with one lens placed above the other. This adjustment might seem minor, but it could affect how you handle the phone when taking photos.

As for the cameras themselves, the main camera will continue to be a 48-megapixel sensor with a f/1.6 aperture, ensuring that you can capture high-quality images with plenty of detail. However, the ultra-wide camera is where youโ€™ll see some improvements. It will feature a faster lens with a f/2.2 aperture, an upgrade from the previous f/2.4. This should improve low-light performance, making your night-time shots clearer and more vibrant.

In an exciting new development, the ultra-wide iPhone 16 and 16 Plus cameras are rumoured to support macro photography for the first time. This means youโ€™ll be able to get up close and personal with your subjects, capturing intricate details like never before.

iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max: Enhanced ultra-wide and telephoto cameras

If youโ€™re considering the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max, youโ€™ll be pleased to know that these models are expected to come with a trio of cameras, each designed to cater to different photographic needs.

The main wide camera will remain a 48-megapixel sensor with a f/1.78 aperture, ensuring consistency with the previous generation. However, the ultra-wide camera is set to see a significant upgrade. Itโ€™s reportedly a 48-megapixel unit that will use the same pixel-binning technology as the main camera. This could make a big difference in the quality of your ultra-wide shots, which have been seen as a weak point on the iPhone 15 Pro.

The telephoto camera on the iPhone 16 Pro is also expected to receive an upgrade. Instead of the 3x optical zoom found on the iPhone 15 Pro, the new model will allegedly feature a 5x zoom lens, matching the Pro Max model. This improvement will allow you to get closer to your subjects without losing image quality, which could be a game-changer for anyone who enjoys taking detailed, zoomed-in photos.

Expected announcement in September

While Apple has yet to officially announce the date for its annual iPhone event, rumours suggest that the unveiling of the iPhone 16 lineup will take place during the second week of September.

These camera updates can significantly impact your photography, whether you opt for the iPhone 16 or one of the Pro models.
