Remedy unveils FBC: Firebreak, a co-op shooter set in the Control universe

Remedy Entertainment reveals FBC: Firebreak, a co-op shooter in the Control universe, coming in 2025 with intense team-based gameplay.

Remedy Entertainment has officially unveiled FBC: Firebreak, a thrilling new co-op shooter set within the Control universe. After a long development process, the game is finally making its debut, promising an exciting multiplayer experience for teams of three. Players will be tasked with battling waves of enemies using a creative and deadly array of weapons. Among the arsenal revealed in the trailer is a poisonous gatling gun and a unique weapon featuring a piston for launching aerial attacks.

A familiar yet different world

FBC: Firebreak occurs in the same surreal world as Control and Alan Wake II, which will feel familiar to players who have explored the Federal Bureau of Control or the mysterious Oldest House. While the game shares the same universe as Control, it’s clear that FBC: Firebreak is not meant to be a direct sequel to the psychological thriller. Instead, it is a spin-off with a distinct gameplay style and storyline.

Game Director Mike Kayatta explained this vision during the game’s reveal: “I guess you could say that it’s a spin-off, but in the most positive sense of the word. It’s not designed to be some lesser, bite-sized Control. FBC: Firebreak is its own, fully formed thing.” This statement shows that while Firebreak is connected to the original game, it is meant to offer players a fresh, standalone experience.

A long-awaited reveal

Fans have been eagerly waiting for more details about Firebreak since Remedy teased a multiplayer project in 2021. Since then, the concept has evolved considerably, reflecting Remedy’s commitment to delivering a polished and engaging co-op experience. Interestingly, Firebreak’s journey to release has been marked by changes, including cancelling another co-op project with Tencent, codenamed Project Vanguard. Originally envisioned as a free-to-play title, Vanguard was scrapped after a failed attempt to rework it as a premium game in 2023.

Remedy is firmly focused on delivering FBC: Firebreak, and excitement is building for its 2025 release. The game is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series |S, PC, and 5, with players on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass able to access the game from day one. It will also be available on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members, offering fans a range of ways to dive into this thrilling new chapter of the Control universe.
