Pure Storage and Micron team up for scalable and energy-efficient hyperscale data centre solutions

Pure Storage and Micron expand their partnership to deliver energy-efficient, scalable storage solutions, tackling key challenges for hyperscale data centres.

Pure Storage, a leader in data storage technology, has announced an expanded partnership with Micron Technology, a global innovator in memory and storage solutions. The collaboration will leverage Micron’s G9 QLC NAND technology to power Pure Storage’s future DirectFlash Module products, creating energy-efficient and scalable storage solutions tailored to hyperscale data centres.

This decade-long partnership continues to combine Micron’s advanced NAND innovations with Pure Storage’s platforms. Previous milestones include integrating the Micron G8 QLC NAND in Pure Storage’s 150TB DirectFlash Module, delivering high-performance, low-latency storage solutions with improved energy efficiency.

Addressing key challenges in modern data centres

Data centres today face critical challenges: energy efficiency, storage density, and performance. Rising power demands make energy-efficient solutions essential for managing costs and environmental impact. At the same time, growing data demands put pressure on space-limited facilities, requiring operators to maximise storage density without compromising performance.

The collaboration between Pure Storage and Micron seeks to address these challenges. Together, they aim to provide hyperscalers with solutions that optimise energy use, maximise storage capacity, and offer top-tier performance.

Benefits of the collaboration

The expanded partnership delivers several advantages for data centre operators:

  1. Enhanced performance and lower latency: Pure Storage’s advanced storage platform, combined with Micron’s high-speed NAND technology, supports demanding workloads with ultra-fast data transfer rates and low latency.
  2. Sustainability in storage: The joint solution significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional hard drive-based systems. This leads to lower operational costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
  3. Scalable, dense storage systems: By incorporating Micron’s NAND technology with industry-leading areal density, Pure Storage offers systems that can scale effectively while maintaining a reduced total cost of ownership.

Leadership perspectives

Bill Cerreta, General Manager for Hyperscale at Pure Storage, highlighted the partnership’s value in addressing the growing demands of hyperscale environments. “Pure Storage’s collaboration with Micron is another example of our significant momentum bringing the benefits of all-flash storage technology to hyperscale environments. With Micron’s advanced NAND technology, Pure Storage can further optimise storage scalability, performance, and energy efficiency for an industry with unparalleled requirements.”

Similarly, Jeremy Werner, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Micron’s Storage Business Unit, emphasised the innovation and trust underlying the collaboration. “Micron’s advanced NAND technologies, combined with Pure’s innovative storage solutions, enable data centre operators to address the increasing performance, efficiency, and scalability needs for today’s hyperscale data centres. Built on trust and thriving on innovation, our collaboration with Pure Storage consistently offers cutting-edge storage solutions for hyperscale and enterprise environments.”

A step forward for hyperscale storage

As hyperscale data centres continue to expand and evolve, the collaboration between Pure Storage and Micron offers a forward-looking solution to their unique challenges. By integrating advanced NAND technology with efficient storage platforms, they are delivering sustainable and high-performance systems that meet the industry’s increasing demands.
