Pixel 10 to feature more cameras, but with downgraded specs

Google's Pixel 10 may feature more cameras but with downgraded specs, including a telephoto lens, while the Pixel 10 Pro retains its advanced setup.

Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 may come with more cameras, but they might not be better than those on the previous model, the Pixel 9. While the base Pixel 10 is expected to feature primary and ultrawide cameras similar to those introduced with the Pixel 9A, these may not be as advanced as those on the Pixel 9, according to reports from Android Authority. However, the Pixel 10 will likely include a telephoto camera, a feature that previous base Pixel models, including the Pixel 9, have lacked.

A shift in camera specs

The Pixel 10’s camera setup is expected to focus more on providing a variety of lenses rather than improving the quality of the main camera sensors. The primary and ultrawide lenses on the new device may match the specifications of the Pixel 9A, which were considered a step down from the Pixel 9’s cameras. While this might seem like a downgrade, the addition of a telephoto camera could make the Pixel 10 a more versatile device, especially for users who enjoy capturing distant objects or need more flexibility with their photography.

Pixel 10 Pro and Pro Fold cameras

On the other hand, the Pixel 10 Pro is expected to retain the same camera hardware as the Pixel 9 Pro. This suggests that Google may be counting on the power of its next-generation Tensor G5 chip to enhance the cameras’ performance, particularly when it comes to processing images. It is also expected that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which is rumoured to have a design similar to its predecessor, will feature the same primary shooter as the Pixel 9A.

This focus on the Tensor G5 chip could mean that while the camera hardware remains the same, software enhancements could still significantly improve photo quality, as the chip is expected to bring improvements in AI and image processing.

What to expect at launch

Google’s Pixel 9 series was announced in August last year, and there is speculation that the company might stick to a similar timeline for the launch of the Pixel 10. The Pixel 9A, which is expected to launch on April 10th, could offer a glimpse into the new features and improvements that Google is working on for the Pixel 10 series.

If the timeline follows previous trends, the Pixel 10 series could likely be unveiled sometime in August 2025. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro Fold offer the most advanced camera technology in Google’s lineup. For now, users can look forward to more camera options, even if the overall quality may not match that of previous models.
