OPPO partners with UNESCO to empower youth innovation and preserve culture

OPPO partners with UNESCO to support youth innovation and preserve cultural heritage, launching the #CaptureMyCulture campaign globally.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, OPPO is joining forces with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to drive a new initiative focused on youth innovation and cultural preservation through imaging technology. The seeks to promote cultural education, enabling young people to explore diverse cultures while preserving heritage. The initiative operates under the theme “Connecting Cultures, Inspiring Futures.”

Empowering youth education with OPPO tablets and cultural initiatives

As part of the collaboration, OPPO will donate 1,000 tablets to support youth education in Africa and Asia. These tablets will come pre-installed with cultural programming courses, developed under the ‘Youth Coding Initiative,’ a project jointly launched by UNESCO and CODEMAO, a children’s programming education brand. The initiative aims to promote inclusive and safe use of technology, advance equitable education, and assist in preserving local cultural heritage through digital learning.

Firmin E. Matoko, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations at UNESCO, praised the initiative, stating, “OPPO’s dedication to advancing youth innovation and education is highly appreciated. I am sure that the students and teachers from Africa and Asia will better benefit from the new partnership with OPPO following UNESCO vision and requirements.”

The partnership, which has received backing from the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO, will be officially launched once UNESCO’s procedural reviews are complete.

In addition to the donations, OPPO is kicking off a global campaign titled #CaptureMyCulture. This campaign encourages people from across the world to contribute to cultural preservation by sharing photos and stories that celebrate their local traditions. Participants in the campaign will also have the opportunity to witness the donation ceremony.

OPPO’s ongoing commitment to cultural preservation

OPPO’s dedication to cultural preservation extends beyond its partnership with UNESCO. Earlier this year, OPPO teamed up with the Discovery Channel to launch the “Culture in a Shot” project, a global initiative focused on promoting and protecting cultural diversity through imaging technology. The project highlights the efforts of various communities worldwide, including Thailand’s Lisu group, preserving their heritage through music; ‘s artisans practising the ancient craft of batik; and Spain’s flamenco dancers, representing Andalusian culture through their performances. Each group uses distinct art forms to tell their unique cultural stories.

OPPO has also introduced an AI Studio feature in its Reno12 series, which allows users to generate studio-quality portraits, offering them the chance to digitally transform into figures such as a flamenco dancer. This innovative tool enables users to have immersive cultural experiences from anywhere in the world.

OPPO’s vision for the future

As OPPO celebrates its 20th anniversary, the company continues to advance technological innovation, particularly in AI and imaging technology. Through tools that enable creative expression and storytelling, OPPO is helping to connect cultures and inspire future generations.

Guided by its mission of “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO remains dedicated to contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage and youth education. The company aims to continue leveraging technology to make a positive impact on society, preserving and promoting global cultures for future generations.

The #CaptureMyCulture campaign is open for submissions until 25 September 2024. OPPO invites everyone to share their cultural photos and stories, helping to connect cultures and inspire futures.
