OnePlus launches a limited-edition foldable in crimson

OnePlus introduces the limited-edition OnePlus Open Apex Edition, which features a unique design and enhanced features, including AI perks and VIP Mode.

OnePlus has introduced a special edition of its OnePlus Open foldable phone, named the OnePlus Open Apex Edition. This limited-edition model features a striking Crimson Shadow colour and a vegan leather finish, inspired by two iconic designs: OnePlus’s signature red logo and Hasselbladโ€™s renowned medium-format film camera, the 503CW 60 Years Victor Red Edition.

Unique features and design

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition stands out with its unique design and additional features. While the core specifications remain similar to the regular OnePlus Open, the Apex Edition offers notable upgrades. It boasts 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, doubling the capacity of the standard model. Additionally, it comes pre-loaded with OPPOโ€™s generative AI features, including AI Eraser and AI Smart Cutout, enhancing your photo editing experience.

Another significant feature is the VIP Mode, borrowed from the OPPO Find X7 Ultra. This mode, known as VIP Slider on the Find X7 Ultra, goes beyond silencing notifications. When you activate the foldable’s Alert Slider, the phone turns off microphones, cameras, advertisement tracking, and location tracking while adding chip-layer encryption. This feature offers an extra layer of security, providing peace of mind with a simple flick of a switch.

Availability and pricing

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition is available in India for INR149,999 and in the United States for US$1,899.99 (~S$2,514.30). Although there is no confirmed timeline for its release in Europe, OnePlus has announced plans to bring this limited-edition phone to the European market. As for Singapore, the OnePlus Open did not launch there, likely because it closely resembles the OPPO Find N3. However, the unique design and features of the Apex Edition may appeal to both OPPO and OnePlus fans, potentially leading to its future availability in Singapore.

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition is not just a foldable phone; it’s a collector’s item that combines unique design elements with advanced features, making it a standout choice for tech enthusiasts and brand loyalists.
