Nintendo Switch 2 rumours point to potential specs and launch timelines

Explore the latest rumours about Nintendo Switch 2's specs and expected launch in March 2025, including new features and compatibility.

Despite Nintendo’s announcement that the Nintendo Switch 2 won’t be released this year, enthusiasts and insiders continue to speculate about its specifications and expected launch date.

A user named Lic on the Famiboards forum has meticulously analysed various shipment and customs records involving Nintendo, Nvidia, and several other companies. From this data, Lic has pieced together a list of potential specifications for the upcoming Switch 2. According to this analysis, the new console could boast 12GB of RAM, configured in two 6GB LPDDR5X modules, along with a sizeable 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Meanwhile, another insider operating under the handle @CentroLeaks on X (formerly known as Twitter) has hinted at additional features. According to this source, both the Switch 2 console and its controllers may include a built-in microphone. Furthermore, the same tipster suggests that the console will feature an 8-inch display, offering a sizeable screen for gaming on the go.

Further contributions from the Famiboards community include a post from a member named mjayer, who has shared a scale mockup of what the Switch 2 might look like compared to the current Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck. It is essential to note, however, that this model is based on leaked components and may not accurately represent the final product.

More concrete information comes from Brazilian television outlet tvPH, which reports that the Switch 2 is likely to be officially unveiled in March 2025. This source also mentioned that the new console would feature both physical and digital backward compatibility, allowing it to run games designed for the original Switch.

Earlier in the year, rumours circulated suggesting that the delay in the Switch 2’s launch until the first quarter of 2025 was due to Nintendo’s desire to develop a more robust lineup of games for the console’s release.

This mix of leaks and predictions keeps the gaming community abuzz with anticipation as they eagerly await official updates from Nintendo regarding the Switch 2.
