Nintendo postpones next-generation console launch to 2025

Nintendo's next-gen console, the Switch 2, is now set for an early 2025 launch, focusing on a robust first-party game lineup.

In a recent development that will be a talking point among gaming enthusiasts, Nintendo has announced postponing its next-generation console, unofficially known as “Switch 2”, to the first quarter of 2025. The first indications of this schedule change were reported by Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who cited multiple sources in his coverage. These sources concur that Nintendo’s original plan to release the new console in the second half of 2024 has been revised to the first quarter of 2025.

As suggested by VGC, one potential reason for this postponement is Nintendo’s desire to launch the new console with a substantial selection of first-party games. This strategy aligns with Nintendo’s historical emphasis on providing quality gaming experiences and could ensure a more impactful launch for the new platform.

Focus on the original Switch and upcoming games

Amidst these updates, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, has conveyed to stakeholders that the original Switch will remain a primary focus for the company in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. He also highlighted plans for a smooth transition to the next-generation console, reflecting the company’s thoughtful approach to new product introductions.
