Nintendo postpones next-generation console launch to 2025

These sources concur that Nintendo’s original plan to release the new console in the second half of 2024 has been revised to the first quarter of 2025.

As suggested by VGC, one potential reason for this postponement is Nintendo’s desire to launch the new console with a substantial selection of first-party games. This strategy aligns with Nintendo’s historical emphasis on providing quality gaming experiences and could ensure a more impactful launch for the new platform.

Focus on the original Switch and upcoming games

Amidst these updates, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, has conveyed to stakeholders that the original Switch will remain a primary focus for the company in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. He also highlighted plans for a smooth transition to the next-generation console, reflecting the company’s thoughtful approach to new product introductions.

Despite being several years into its lifecycle, the original Nintendo Switch continues to perform exceptionally well in the market, with sales surpassing 139 million units globally. This enduring success underscores the console’s popularity and Nintendo’s strong position in the gaming industry.
