New AI features coming to Final Cut Pro

Apple updates Final Cut Pro with AI-powered tools, Image Playground, and new features for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, enhancing video editing workflows.

Apple has announced exciting new updates for its popular Final Cut apps, bringing artificial intelligence-powered tools to Mac and iPad users. The latest update, Final Cut Pro 11.1 for Mac, introduces Apple Intelligence integration, including a new Image Playground feature allowing you to generate AI-created images quickly. Meanwhile, Final Cut Pro 2.2 for iPad receives similar enhancements and a new portrait orientation mode.

How Image Playground works

With the new Image Playground tool, you can generate AI-powered images directly within Final Cut Pro. To use this feature, navigate to File > Import > Image Playground, where you’ll have three main options:

  • Create an image from a concept – Select a theme or place to generate an image.
  • Create an image from a description – Type in a text prompt, and the AI will create a relevant image.
  • Create an image of a person – Choose a photo from your library to generate a new image based on it.

You can modify existing photos to change their style, such as converting them into animations. The tool provides multiple variations for each image, allowing you to select the one that best suits your project.

Other improvements for Mac and iPad users

Mac users will benefit from several new features in Final Cut Pro 11.1, including:

  • The ability to apply colour corrections and effects to multiple clips at once.
  • A new audio adjustment called Quantec QRS (Quantec Room Simulator) helps replicate real-world acoustic environments.
  • The option to rename audio effects within the inspector panel.
  • A handy new keyboard shortcut to show or hide the Magnetic Mask Editor.

On the iPad, Final Cut Pro 2.2 brings additional improvements tailored for mobile editing:

  • A new portrait orientation mode that optimises the workspace for vertical videos.
  • More keyboard shortcuts to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • The ability to capture video at 50 fps offers greater flexibility for high-frame-rate recording.

Updates for Final Cut Camera on iPhone

Apple is also rolling out minor enhancements for the Final Cut Camera on iPhone, now updated to version 1.2. While this app won’t get the Image Playground feature, it will include:

  • Switching to the 48mm telephoto lens is possible for better zoom capabilities.
  • A new 50 fps recording mode for smoother high-frame-rate footage.

These updates mark a significant step forward for Apple’s video editing ecosystem, making creating professional-quality content on Mac, iPad, and iPhone easier than ever.
