MSI offers free Microsoft 365 with select laptops in Japan

MSI offers free Microsoft 365 with select laptops in Japan. Discover specs, features, and whether this deal might expand globally.

MSI has announced a fantastic deal for its customers in Japan: a free Microsoft 365 Office suite with select laptops. This could be a game-changer for students and professionals who rely on productivity software for everyday tasks. However, the question is whether MSI plans to expand this offer to a global audience.

This promotion includes two laptops: the Modern 15 H B13M 5039JP and its smaller sibling, the Modern 14 H D13MG 5029JP. Both models are designed with powerful specs and sleek builds, catering to users who need both performance and portability.

The Modern 15 H B13M 5039JP has a 15.6-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) non-glare LCD. It features 32GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe SSD and runs on Windows 11 Home. Connectivity options include USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with video output and USB PD compatibility, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI, a 920,000-pixel webcam, an audio combo jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

This laptop weighs about 1.9 kg, measures 359 x 241 x 19.9 mm, and has a 53.8Wh battery. However, its battery life may be a slight drawback for some users. It lasts up to four hours during video playback or up to eight hours when idle, making it less ideal for extended periods away from a power source.

The Modern 14 H D13MG 5029JP offers a more compact option with its 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) non-glare LCD. It retains the same memory and storage setup as the larger model and includes Thunderbolt 4 support, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, HDMI, an audio combo jack, a 920,000-pixel webcam, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

The smaller model is more portable, weighing around 1.6 kg and measuring 313.7 x 236 x 18.6 mm. Its 53.8Whr battery also performs better, lasting six hours during video playback and up to 14 hours when idle.

Why not Windows 11 Pro?

One detail that has raised eyebrows is that both laptops ship with Windows 11 Home despite bundling with Microsoft 365. Given the productivity suite’s business focus, many users might have expected MSI to include Windows 11 Pro as the default operating system. MSI recommends Windows 11 Pro for business users, making the choice of Windows 11 Home curious.

Both laptops come in a single colour option – Classic Black – offering a sleek and professional appearance. However, MSI has not announced pricing or availability for these models outside Japan.

Will the offer go global?

Including Microsoft 365 as a freebie is undoubtedly appealing, but whether MSIto will roll out this promotion worldwide remains to be seen. For now, customers outside Japan will have to wait and see if the deal extends to their region.

With strong specs and a free productivity suite bonus, these laptops could become significantly popular for professionals and students if MSI expands this offer globally.
