Meta introduces AI-edited video ads for Facebook and Instagram

Meta is testing AI-powered video editing tools for Facebook and Instagram ads, which will allow advertisers to animate images and expand video borders.

You may soon notice something different in your Instagram and Facebook feeds: video ads enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI). Meta has begun testing AI-powered video editing features that will allow advertisers to animate images and expand the borders of existing videos.

With these new tools, advertisers can upload a static image and use Meta’s AI system to transform it into a moving video. For instance, in one example, a simple image of strawberries in a jar comes to life as the strawberries begin to float slowly in the background. This form of animation offers a fresh way for advertisers to create dynamic content without complex video production skills.

Expanding video borders with AI

In addition to animation, Meta is also introducing an AI feature that allows advertisers to make their existing videos bigger. The tool generates unseen pixels in each frame, expanding the video’s size while keeping the content seamless. This is similar to how AI tools can now broaden the background of images. For advertisers, this could mean getting more out of their content by making it adaptable for different screen sizes or creating a new perspective in videos that their original format would otherwise limit.

These features are currently being rolled out in stages, with a broader launch expected early next year. Advertisers will soon be able to use these innovations to enhance their campaigns across Meta’s platforms.

AI tools for a new era of advertising

This development builds on Meta’s existing AI tools for advertisers. Businesses already use AI for text and image generation in ad creation, making the process faster and more efficient. With the introduction of AI-enhanced video ads, Meta is further expanding the possibilities for creative digital marketing. These ads will also be featured on Facebook’s upcoming full-screen video tab, ensuring maximum visibility.

Meta isn’t the only company exploring AI-powered advertising. Amazon recently introduced an AI tool that automatically creates video clips from product images, and TikTok has been experimenting with using AI-generated avatars in its advertising campaigns. This shift indicates a growing trend in the industry, with AI playing a central role in shaping how brands connect with audiences through video content.

As AI continues to develop, more platforms will introduce features that make it easier to create dynamic and engaging ads. This technology represents a major shift in how content is produced and shared for advertisers, offering new ways to reach audiences in a fast-paced digital environment.
