Logitech unveils MX Ink Stylus for Meta Quest VR headsets

Discover Logitech's new MX Ink Stylus for Meta Quest, transforming VR creativity with 3D drawing and painting capabilities.

Logitech has unveiled its first virtual reality (VR) venture with an exciting new accessory, the MX Ink Stylus. This innovative tool allows you to draw and paint in 3D on the Meta Quest 3, transforming your VR experience. The MX Ink Stylus works seamlessly with the Quest controller, greatly expanding the capabilities of the popular Quest 3 VR headset.

A versatile tool for VR creativity

The MX Ink Stylus is not just limited to Quest 3. You can also use it with Quest Pro and Quest 2. It supports a range of painting and sculpting apps, including Gravity Sketch, PaintingVR, OpenBrush, ShapesXR, GestureVR, Arkio, and Engage XR. Additionally, when connected to a VR-ready PC, the stylus is compatible with Adobe’s Substance Modeller and Elucis by Realise Medical.

While the Meta Quest controller can be used for drawing, painting, and sculpting, the MX Ink Stylus offers a more natural and intuitive experience. Logitech, a leader in computer accessories, already has its Bluetooth keyboards, trackpads, and mice working with Meta’s VR headsets, bringing the Quest 3 closer to being a laptop replacement.

Enhanced features for artistic expression

Logitech designed the MX Ink Stylus with a replaceable, pressure-sensitive tip and adjustable pressure curves, allowing artistic precision when drawing in 2D. Logitech’s MX Mat provides a suitable drawing surface. The stylus also includes haptics to simulate the feel of drawing on different surfaces, enhancing the tactile experience.

Unlike standard digital art styluses, the MX Ink Stylus offers six degrees of freedom, allowing you to rotate, lift, and move the virtual pencil anywhere in space. You can even trace physical objects in mixed reality, creating virtual representations quickly and accurately.

Customisable and convenient

The MX Ink Stylus features customisable buttons with adjustable activation force and double-tap timing. It comes with the MX Ink Well, a charging base that keeps the stylus charged and ready to use whenever inspiration strikes. This thoughtful design caters to the needs of a growing number of VR artists and designers, providing a practical solution for creative projects.

Logitech’s entry into the VR space with the MX Ink Stylus seems promising, but its true potential will be revealed when users get hands-on experience later this year.

The Logitech MX Ink Stylus will debut at Meta Connect in September, possibly alongside the new Quest 3s headset. It costs US$130.
