LG and Qualcomm join forces to simplify vehicle systems with the innovative xDC platform

LG and Qualcomm unveil the xDC platform at CES 2025, combining IVI and ADAS systems into one powerful controller for smarter vehicles.

LG Electronics, in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, is set to unveil its advanced Cross Domain Controller (xDC) platform for vehicles at CES 2025. Powered by Qualcomm Technologiesโ€™ Snapdragon Ride Flex System-on-Chip (SoC), the platform combines LGโ€™s In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) System and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) into a single controller, simplifying vehicle architecture and enhancing the driving experience.

Modern vehicles are becoming increasingly complex, requiring advanced systems capable of managing multiple functions simultaneously. Qualcommโ€™s Flex SoC addresses this challenge by integrating ADAS, automated driving capabilities, and an open platform that supports digital cockpits and infotainment systems. By using this multifunctional chipset, LGโ€™s xDC platform processes data from IVI and ADAS systems in real-time, providing smoother operation, reducing hardware costs, and delivering a more seamless driving experience.

The xDC platform also features the โ€œADAS confidence view,โ€ a driver assistance function that blends 3D and 2D graphics to improve road awareness. This proactive assistance ensures key information, such as distance to nearby vehicles and lane departure warnings, is displayed clearly on the main vehicle screen.

Enhanced driver experience with intelligent system integration

The xDC platform doesnโ€™t just focus on safety and functionalityโ€”it also enhances convenience. Drivers and front-seat passengers can access a wide range of information through the vehicle’s primary display. This includes critical ADAS alerts, navigation guidance, and alternative routes based on real-time traffic updates.

Additionally, the system offers personalised recommendations, such as store promotions from frequently visited locations, creating a tailored and enjoyable driving experience.

A major advantage of the xDC platform lies in its ability to handle multiple tasks, such as navigation, safety alerts, and driver assistance functions, all within a single system. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC, certified to Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)-D safety standards, ensures reliable performance and dependable support for critical in-vehicle operations.

Showcasing innovation at CES 2025

CES 2025, held in Las Vegas from 7 January to 10 January, will provide attendees with a first-hand look at the xDC platform. Both LG and Qualcomm Technologies will showcase the platformโ€™s capabilities in their private exhibition spaces, highlighting how this integrated system can set a new standard for software-defined vehicles.

Looking ahead, LG and Qualcomm plan to build on their strong partnership to create tailored solutions for global car manufacturers. Their focus will remain on component integration, design optimisation, and developing cost-effective, high-performance technologies that can drive the future of smart mobility.

Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle Solution Company, said: โ€œThe xDC platform, which leverages the cutting-edge Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC, offers automakers a flexible solution that simplifies complex systems while enhancing the driving experience. Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies sets a new benchmark for the industry, redefining the driving experience.โ€

With this partnership, LG and Qualcomm are not only simplifying vehicle systems but also setting the stage for the next generation of intelligent and connected mobility solutions.
