Lenovo drives AI upskilling in Singapore’s workforce

Lenovo partners with SMF to upskill Singapore’s workforce in AI, offering training and smart solutions to help businesses stay competitive.

Lenovo Singapore has formed a strategic partnership with the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) to enhance AI skills among employees in Singapore’s manufacturing and retail sectors. This initiative supports Lenovo’s commitment to the Singapore Economy 2030 vision, which focuses on strengthening four key pillars: Trade, Enterprise, Manufacturing, and Services.

To assist in achieving these goals, Lenovo has introduced a range of AI-powered solutions to enhance productivity, streamline operations, and improve customer experiences across multiple sectors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore are expected to gain substantially from these tools, helping them stay competitive in a fast-evolving digital landscape.

Lenovo’s smart manufacturing suite includes advanced tools like the Automated Storage and Retrieval System and Supply Chain Intelligence, while its smart retail solutions—such as Dynamic Pricing and Electronic Shelf Labels—provide real-time updates and increased operational efficiency. These solutions, honoured by the 2024 Edison Awards, help reduce manual work and errors, positioning local enterprises to be more agile and responsive in the marketplace.

“Lenovo’s smart manufacturing and retail solutions are designed to empower businesses to achieve operational excellence and stay competitive,” said Lawrence Yu, General Manager for Lenovo Retail Solutions. “By leveraging our cutting-edge technologies, companies can optimise their supply chains, enhance customer experiences, and drive digitalisation. We’re committed to helping businesses stay ahead of the curve and thrive in today’s rapidly evolving market.”

Increasing productivity with AI-enhanced laptops

Expanding on its AI-driven product range, Lenovo has introduced laptops that are integrated with AI technology to boost productivity in various industries. With AI processors in models like the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 and ThinkPad P14s Gen 5, these laptops support seamless collaboration, data analysis, and content creation, benefitting professionals in fields such as architecture, data science, and design. These laptops deliver faster response times compared to earlier models, allowing for greater efficiency and productivity.

The new series includes the AMD Ryzen PRO U-Series ThinkPad Z13, as well as the AMD Ryzen AI-powered ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, T14s Gen 6, and P14s Gen 5. These models come with built-in AI capabilities, providing users with an enhanced, tailored experience. Through these advancements, Lenovo aims to enable businesses and professionals in Singapore to harness AI effectively to meet the demands of today’s dynamic work environment.

In collaboration with SMF, Lenovo is rolling out upskilling and reskilling programmes designed for Singapore’s workforce in the manufacturing and retail sectors. These initiatives provide hands-on experience with AI-powered tools and aim to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively implement AI in their roles. This upskilling effort helps bridge the AI skills gap and ensures that local businesses can utilise advanced technologies to their fullest potential.

“We recognise that Singapore’s workforce is the backbone of the economy, and we are committed to supporting the growth of its employees through our smart solutions and talent development initiatives,” said Nigel Lee, Country General Manager at Lenovo Singapore. “By equipping local enterprises and their teams with the necessary tools and skills, we are helping them to become more competitive, sustainable, and future-ready.”

In addition to its collaboration with SMF, Lenovo has partnerships with educational institutions like the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) through initiatives such as the eXtended Reality Centre (XRC). This centre provides students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technologies, including virtual and augmented reality. Furthermore, Lenovo’s Laptop Refurbishment Programme enables ITE students to refurbish laptops, which are then donated to those in need, supporting digital inclusion.

Supporting startups and SMEs through AI innovation

Lenovo’s commitment to AI extends beyond training initiatives to include support for startups. Its Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group (LCIG) provides AI-focused startups with technology, resources, and mentorship, enabling them to scale globally. Prominent beneficiaries of LCIG’s support include Aibee, an AI-driven retail solutions provider, and Syrius Robotics, which specialises in autonomous driving technology. These startups have used Lenovo’s infrastructure and expertise to expand their capabilities and reach.

These and other Lenovo-supported startups were recently featured at SWITCH 2024, an event that offered networking opportunities with industry leaders and insights into the latest technological trends. Through its focus on talent development, technological innovation, and SME support, Lenovo aims to empower Singapore businesses to succeed in the digital economy.
