Introducing the Affinidi Iota Framework: A new era in consent-based data sharing

Affinidi launches a groundbreaking consent-based data-sharing framework in Singapore, enhancing individual control and privacy with innovative technology.

Affinidi, a Singapore-based data and identity management company, launched the Affinidi Iota Framework at the WeAreDevelopers World Congress. This innovative framework introduces a consent-first approach to data sharing, empowering individuals to control their personal information with full transparency. The framework shifts data processing to a personal data vault, where individuals can explicitly consent to the sharing of their information, ensuring greater control and privacy.

Enhancing data privacy and security

The launch of the Affinidi Iota Framework represents a significant shift away from traditional data handling practices, which often leave individuals’ sensitive information vulnerable to misuse and breaches. According to a Twilio report, 60% of consumers in the Asia-Pacific demand clear consent and communication regarding the use of their data. Furthermore, a PwC study highlights a trust gap, with only 30% of consumers trusting businesses to handle their data responsibly.

Affinidi’s new framework addresses these concerns by allowing developers to directly request essential data points from individuals, with explicit consent, thereby eliminating the need to collect and store non-essential information. This method reduces the risks associated with data breaches and misuse by ensuring that individuals maintain control over their data.

Empowering developers with innovative tools

The Affinidi Iota Framework equips developers with development-friendly templates and robust tools, simplifying the integration of data-sharing processes. The Affinidi Trust Development Kit (TDK), an open-source toolkit, enables developers to build privacy-preserving applications efficiently. This streamlined solution integrates identity management, verifiable credential handling, and login configurations, supporting various programming languages such as TypeScript and Python for seamless integration.

The framework utilises cutting-edge technologies like the DIF Presentation Exchange (PEX) protocol and the OpenID for Verifiable Presentations (OID4VP) specifications built on OAuth 2.0. It ensures that only necessary and verified information is shared, enhancing security and trust.

Revolutionising data exchange and ownership

The release of the Affinidi Iota Framework marks a pivotal step towards returning data ownership to individuals through its Holistic Identity concept, which addresses the fragmentation of digital identities across platforms. By enabling just-in-time data acquisition from the Affinidi Vault, the framework simplifies real-time data access, reduces complexity, and enhances transparency.

Roopesh Shah, Co-Founder and CTO of Gro Club, India’s first and largest bicycle subscription model that recently adopted Affinidi’s solution for seamless integration, shared, “We began with Affinidi Login to simplify access to individual data through a one-click onboarding process. But with the introduction of the Affinidi Iota Framework, we are thrilled to advance beyond efficient customer onboarding, laying the groundwork for a future where every interaction is precisely tailored to individual preferences based on accurate and consented data.”

Glenn Gore, Chief Executive Officer of Affinidi, stated, “In a new world where individuals can control their identity and data, we must redefine how information is shared. The Affinidi Iota Framework represents a major step forward in safeguarding privacy and consent by shifting information processing to the individual’s personal data vault. Gone are the days of trusting third parties with sensitive documents like pay slips and bank statements just to open a bank account.”
