Inflection AI introduces Inflection-2.5, a formidable rival to GPT-4

Inflection AI's new AI model, Inflection-2.5, challenges the performance of GPT-4, powering the diverse and engaging Pi chatbot.

Inflection AI, a Palo Alto-based startup, has recently introduced its latest innovation, Inflection-2.5. This new model is a significant leap from the company’s initial offering, Inflection-1. It demonstrates superior performance and closely rivals OpenAI’s acclaimed GPT-4, particularly in areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Inflection-2.5 marks a pivotal moment in challenging OpenAI’s stronghold in the AI sector. The model now drives the company’s Pi assistant, aiming to contend with established names like ChatGPT and Gemini. The public can explore this new AI marvel via accessible platforms such as mobile and web applications.

Empathy and intelligence combined: the distinctive features of Inflection-2.5

A key aspiration behind Inflection AI’s development strategy has been to forge an AI that is practical and secure and possesses a relatable, empathetic nature. This focus has resulted in the Pi model being endowed with an exceptional emotional quotient (EQ), making interactions more personal and conversational than other AI models, including the GPT series.

With the advent of Inflection-2.5, the company has expanded its vision to elevate the model’s intellectual quotient (IQ), particularly in disciplines like physics and mathematics. The result is a chatbot that can engage in various discussions. Whether delving into a hobby, assisting in creating a business plan or providing solutions to complex biology questions, Inflection-2.5 displays remarkable adaptability and breadth.

In terms of its performance, Inflection-2.5 shows marked improvements in various benchmark tests, inching closer to the results achieved by GPT-4 yet not surpassing them. For instance, on the MMLU benchmark, it scored 85.5, closely trailing GPT-4’s score of 87.3. The model also shows near parity with GPT-4 in STEM examinations, achieving scores like 63 in the Hungarian Math exam and reaching the 85th percentile in the Physics GRE.

Efficient training and timely information: Inflection-2.5’s standout features

Despite not exceeding GPT-4 in overall performance, Inflection-2.5’s training process is considerably more efficient. The model has reached nearly 94% of GPT-4’s performance with only about 40% of the computational power used in GPT-4’s training.

In addition to its efficiency, Inflection-2.5 integrates real-time web search capabilities, similar to GPT-4. This function ensures users access to the latest information on current events, an essential feature for the Pi assistant aimed at a diverse user demographic.

Accessing the capabilities of Inflection-2.5

Inflexion AI has already integrated Inflection-2.5 into its Pi chatbot, allowing users to experience the model’s enhanced capabilities firsthand. Although specific details on how users have benefited from this upgrade are not disclosed, the company has observed a positive shift in user sentiment, engagement, and retention. This has notably contributed to the organic growth of the chatbot.

The Pi chatbot is available on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, web, and desktop applications. Its popularity is evident in its usage statistics—it attracts one million daily and six million monthly active users. Over four billion messages have been exchanged on the platform, with users spending an average of 33 minutes per conversation. This underlines the engaging and diverse discussions facilitated by the new model.
