Google’s latest Pixel update adds AI-powered theft protection

[output_post_excerpt]

Google has released a series of updates for Pixel devices, bringing new features to smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. These updates aren’t just limited to the latest models—older versions, such as the Pixel 6 and newer A-series phones, also receive new features. One of the standout additions is the much-talked-about Night Sight for Instagram, now available on Pixel 6 or newer. This tool lets you directly take bright, clear photos on Instagram, even in low-light settings. This update will likely become a favourite if you enjoy capturing moments at concerts or parties without using a harsh flash.

In addition to the Instagram feature, Night Sight now supports astrophotography on Pixel 6 and newer devices, allowing you to capture stunning night sky photos easily. The updates don’t stop there, as theft protection, one of the most significant additions, is now available worldwide. This feature is available not only on Pixel devices but also on all Android 10 or newer devices.

Theft protection is now available globally

The global rollout of Google’s new theft protection tools marks a significant step forward in device security. This update is available for all Android 10 or newer phones, including the newly released Android 15, and is designed to make your devices more secure than ever before. One of the key features is the AI-powered Theft Detection Lock, which uses machine learning to detect suspicious activity. If the system senses that someone might be trying to steal your device, it automatically locks it to prevent unauthorised access.

Another useful tool is Remote Lock, which lets you secure your phone from afar using a verified phone number. This feature allows you to lock your device remotely in the event it’s stolen or lost. There’s also an Offline Device Lock option, which provides an extra layer of security by allowing you to lock your phone even if it’s not connected to the internet.

Later this year, Google plans to release Identity Check, which will require biometric authentication—like a fingerprint or facial recognition—for tasks such as changing your PIN or turning off the theft protection feature. This added security will ensure that even if someone has your phone, they won’t be able to tamper with its safety settings.

Exclusive features for the Pixel 9 series

If you’re lucky enough to have the latest Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, or Pixel 9 Pro XL, you’ll enjoy some exclusive features unavailable on older models. One of the most exciting additions is the new Gemini extension for screenshots, which lets you use voice commands to find specific saved images. For example, you can say, “Hey Google, use Screenshots to find the red shirt I saved,” and the assistant will locate the image for you.

Another fun feature available to Pixel 9 users is enhanced underwater photography. With the addition of a waterproof case, you can now capture improved images and videos while swimming or diving. This is an exciting update for anyone who loves outdoor adventures and wants to take their phone for underwater exploration.

The latest Google devices and cutting-edge updates offer an impressive range of features designed to make your experience more secure, personalised, and enjoyable. Whether you’re looking to enhance your photos, secure your phone, or explore the depths of the ocean, these new tools offer many exciting possibilities.
