On Tuesday, Google revealed that its artificial intelligence chatbot, Bard, is set to enhance its capabilities. The tech powerhouse aims to bridge the gap with the increasingly popular ChatGPT by introducing the ability for Bard to verify its responses and delve into users’ personal Google data.

Last year, the tech industry witnessed ChatGPT’s explosive rise. Developed by OpenAI and backed by Microsoft, this chatbot became an instant hit, marking its place among the top 30 most frequented websites worldwide. In comparison, Bard’s growth was relatively muted. Recent data from Similarweb indicated that Bard’s traffic in August was only 13% of what ChatGPT experienced.

However, Google is gearing up to change that. With the roll-out of “Bard Extensions”, users will seamlessly merge their Google service interactions with Bard. You could request Bard for a summary from your Gmail or locate files in your Google Drive. Though this integration remains within the Google sphere, future collaborations with external firms are on the horizon, as revealed by Jack Krawczyk, Google’s senior product director.

Reliability in AI is paramount. Addressing the challenge of AI “hallucinations” or misinformed answers, Bard’s new features allow for cross-referencing with Google search results. As Krawczyk puts it, this move aims at bolstering transparency and building user trust.

Taking a step further into creating a holistic digital experience, Bard is set to enable multi-user chat interactions. This initiative underscores Google’s vision of fostering information dissemination and collaborative conversations through its AI chatbot.
