Google unveils Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in Singapore

Discover the latest launch of Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in Singapore with upgraded cameras, new Tensor G3 processor, and others.

The anticipation has reached its pinnacle as Google officially unveils the Pixel 8 series in Singapore during its signature Pixel keynote on 4 October 2023, ending the suspense fuelled by numerous leaks.

Tech advancements in the new models

The Pixel 8 series steps into the market with several noteworthy upgrades, including enhanced rear cameras, a fresh chipset, and a range of unique features. Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are now powered by Google’s proprietary Tensor G3 processor, which, as compared to the original Tensor chip of the Pixel 6 series, is quoted by Google to possess “the biggest model” that’s “10x more complex.” This new chip promises to bring more regarding photography and video-recording functionalities.

Continuing with the trend, the Tensor G3 chip also houses a Titan M2 security co-processor, ensuring secure management of sensitive information like app sign-ins, details, and Face Unlock. Furthermore, both models come with UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5X RAM. The Pixel 8 variants have 8GB RAM, while the Pixel 8 Pro models boast a higher 12GB RAM.

A closer look at the displays and design

The Pixel 8 now flaunts a 6.2-inch Actua Display, essentially an OLED panel with 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution and refresh rates ranging between 60 to 120Hz. This is a leap from the Pixel 7’s 90Hz peak refresh rate. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro sports a larger 6.7-inch Super Actua Display with a higher pixel density, leveraging a flat LTPO OLED for its 1-120Hz refresh rates.

Both models host a 50MP primary camera, yet diverge regarding the ultrawide camera and additional features. The Pixel 8 Pro adds a 48MP telephoto camera, enabling a more advanced zoom and Macro Focus Video, expanding the macro videography possibilities for both models.

The real essence of these upgrades shines through the AI-assisted software features that enhance the photography and videography experience. New additions like Best Take and Magic Editor in Google Photos allow for a refined editing process, while Audio Magic Eraser helps in removing unwanted sounds from short videos.
