Google TV update brings new AI and smart home features

Google TV's new update adds AI features, smart home controls, personalised screensavers, and sports recommendations for a more connected experience.

Google TV has just rolled out a major update, bringing new AI features and controls to early adopters and a wide range of Google TV devices. This update, which started on September 23, promises exciting improvements for users of many of the best TVs and streaming devices. If you’re using a Google TV device, you’ll soon notice these changes as they arrive on your screen.

One of the biggest highlights of this update is its integration of smart home controls. A brand-new Home panel lets you monitor and control compatible smart home devices such as lights, cameras, and thermostats. Imagine answering the door by checking who’s on your video doorbell or adjusting your home’s temperature โ€“ all without even reaching for your remote. You can now ask Google Assistant to manage these tasks with voice commands, making your home feel more connected than ever.

New screensaver and personalisation features

Google TV isn’t just about convenience โ€“ it’s about creating an experience tailored to you. With the new update, the Ambient screensaver has been enhanced. You can now personalise it by using prompts to design your screensaver. If that sounds like too much effort, Google Assistant can also craft screensavers based on your Google Photos. This allows you to turn your TV into a display for your favourite memories, adding a personal touch to your living room.

Another notable addition is a new Sports page within the For You tab. This is great for sports fans, making finding live games, upcoming matches, and YouTube highlights much easier. You’ll also get personalised recommendations based on your interests, meaning you won’t miss the action from your favourite teams.

The channel for Google TV Freeplay has also been improved. Freeplay, which offers 150 free channels, now features an updated guide to help you easily navigate the selection. Whether you’re into movies, documentaries, or children’s shows, the improved interface makes it quicker to find something to watch without scrolling endlessly.

New devices and expanded availability

It’s not just software updates that are making waves in the world of Google TV โ€“ the range of supported devices is expanding, too. The official Google blog notes new devices from Hisense and TCL, including art TVs, and smart projectors from brands like Vankyo, Epson, and XGIMI. So, whether you’re after a high-end TV or a versatile projector, Google TV ensures something for everyone.

In addition, Google TV is expanding its geographical reach, making its platform accessible to more users worldwide. Countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are among the new locations where Google TV will be available, bringing its unique entertainment and smart home integration to even more households.

The rollout began yesterday, September 23, and is expected to reach all Google TV devices soon. This update is one of the largest we’ve seen from Google TV, and it’s set to make your viewing experience more personalised, connected, and enjoyable.
