Google introduces “Help Me Write”: A transformative AI assistant for Chrome

Google's Chrome now features "Help Me Write," an AI writing assistant using the Gemini model, making writing tasks easier.

In an exciting development for Chrome users, Google has recently launched “Help Me Write,” an AI-powered writing assistant. Announced last month and now available, this innovative tool is set to revolutionise how we approach writing tasks online, from crafting reviews to penning inquiries and classified ads.

Transforming everyday writing

At the core of “Help Me Write” lies Google’s advanced Gemini model. This AI technology is designed to generate text that seamlessly aligns with the context of the you’re visiting and the specific text field you’re engaging with. For example, if you’re selling an item online, “Help Me Write” can take your brief product description and expand it into a comprehensive, well-crafted post.

Google’s announcement sheds light on the tool’s capabilities: “The tool will understand the context of the webpage you’re on to suggest relevant content. For instance, if you’re writing a review for a pair of running shoes, Chrome will pull out key features from the product page that support your recommendation, making it more valuable to potential shoppers.”

Showcasing “Help Me Write” in real scenarios

To illustrate the effectiveness of “Help Me Write,” Google provided several examples. Each showcases the tool’s ability to understand and expand on a given prompt:

  1. For the simple prompt “moving to a smaller place selling air fryer for 50 bucks,” the tool crafted a detailed post: “I’m moving to a smaller place and won’t have any room for my air fryer. It’s in good condition and works great. I’m selling it for $50.”
  2. Given that “plane lands at 9 – ask to check in early,” it formulated a polite hotel inquiry: “My flight is scheduled to arrive at 9 am, and I would like to check in as soon as possible. Is there any way I can check in early?”
  3. When prompted to “write a request to return a defective bike helmet not covered in the product warranty,” it suggested a courteous approach: “I would like to return a bike helmet that I recently purchased. The helmet developed a crack along the line where the helmet is joined together. An impact or other damage did not cause this crack…”

Activating “Help Me Write”

To take advantage of this feature, Chrome users can simply navigate to the “Experimental AI” section within their browser settings. This feature, a part of the latest Chrome M122 update, is currently available to English-language users in the United States on and Windows PCs. Users have complete control over the feature, with the ability to enable or disable it at their convenience.

With “Help Me Write,” Google is not just offering a tool for writing assistance; it’s providing a platform that understands the nuances of language and context, ensuring that users’ written content is grammatically correct, contextually relevant and engaging. This marks a significant stride in AI-assisted writing, opening up new possibilities for users to enhance their online writing experiences across various platforms.
