Google expands AI Overviews to six more countries with new features

Google expands its AI Overviews feature to six more countries, introduces new tools, and refines accuracy for better search results.

Google has announced a significant expansion of its AI Overviews feature, making it more powerful and accessible to users in additional countries. This update marks a major step forward in the availability and functionality of AI-powered search tools.

Enhancements to AI Overviews

Earlier this year, Google introduced its AI Overviews feature, initially limited to the United States. The tool, designed to provide more in-depth and detailed search results, faced some criticism due to unusual responses to specific queries, such as suggesting the addition of glue to pizza sauce. Since then, Google has focused on refining the AI Overview feature to enhance its accuracy and reliability.

In its latest update, Google revealed that users increasingly ask more complex questions and dive deeper into topics. This trend benefits publishers, businesses, and content creators relying on search engine traffic. To support this shift, Google has added several new tools to the AI Overviews feature.

One of the key enhancements is the introduction of site icons (favicons) in both desktop and mobile formats. These icons allow you to quickly identify the source of the information, making it simpler to navigate to websites that are most relevant to your query. Additionally, Google has incorporated Direct URLs within the AI Overviewโ€™s text, complementing the existing displayed links. This change enables you to see exactly where the information is coming from, and early trials have indicated that it has increased traffic to publisher sites.

New experimental tools

Alongside these confirmed upgrades, Google has also introduced two experimental tools for AI Overviews. If you want to try them out, you can enable these features through Search Labs, provided they are available in your country.

The first experimental feature allows you to โ€œsaveโ€ specific AI Overviews for future reference. This tool stores the information and keeps the relevant links from your search session. You can recall these saved AI Overviews when you use the exact search phrase or by visiting your profileโ€™s Interest page. At present, this feature is only available in English.

The second experimental feature offers the option to simplify the language used in AI Overviews. This can be particularly helpful if youโ€™re researching topics outside of your expertise or need to explain something to someone who may not be as familiar with the subject. Like the first feature, this language simplification tool is available only in English.

AI Overviews expand to six more countries

In a move that extends the reach of AI Overviews, Google has now made the feature available in six additional countries: the United Kingdom (UK), India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. The expansion includes local language support for each country, making the tool more accessible to a global audience.

As Google continues to advance its AI developments, these updates signal the company’s commitment to enhancing the user experience by providing more precise, user-friendly, and widely available search tools.
