Garmin launches tactix 8 smartwatch with new tactical features

Garmin launches the tactix 8 smartwatch with tactical features, including shot timers, rucking mode, dive support, and up to 48 days of battery life.

Garmin Singapore has introduced the tactix 8, the latest version of its tactical smartwatch series. Designed for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts, the new model comes in two sizes – 47mm and 51mm – and boasts advanced features such as shot and stage timers for marksmen, a dedicated rucking mode, dive capabilities, and a built-in speaker and microphone.

Built to meet U.S. military standards (MIL-STD-810), the tactix 8 is highly resistant to thermal changes, shock, and water. It is rated for dives up to 40 metres, featuring leakproof buttons for enhanced durability. With an impressive battery life, the 51mm solar model lasts up to 48 days, while the AMOLED version offers up to 29 days on a single charge.

“Whether you train for a mission or your mission is training, tactix 8’s premium design and innovative features like the new rucking and dive functionality make it the ultimate tactical GPS smartwatch on land, air, or sea,” said Scoppen Lin, assistant general manager, Garmin Asia.

Advanced features for outdoor and tactical use

The tactix 8 is designed for users who need a smartwatch that can handle demanding environments. Key features include:

  • Enhanced durability: The 51mm case is built with titanium and a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, offering protection in the toughest conditions. A new sensor guard ensures the watch’s essential components remain functional.
  • Shot and stage timers: Designed for marksmen, these timers help users improve accuracy and performance during training and competitions.
  • Built-in speaker and microphone: Users can make and receive calls when connected to a compatible smartphone. The voice control feature also allows hands-free commands like starting an activity or setting a timer.
  • Diving capabilities: The smartwatch supports scuba and apnea diving and is water-resistant up to 40 metres. Leakproof buttons ensure safe underwater operation.
  • Rucking mode: A dedicated activity profile lets users track rucking workouts by adding pack weight to their activity data. When carrying more than 2kg, VO2 Max tracking is automatically disabled to maintain accurate performance metrics.
  • AMOLED or solar-powered display: Users can choose between a bright AMOLED screen or an always-on solar-charging display, which provides up to 50% more solar power than previous models.
  • Navigation and mapping: The smartwatch includes TopoActive maps for terrain contours and dynamic round-trip routing, allowing users to enter a distance and receive suggested routes.

Precision tools for marksmen and aviation professionals

Garmin launches tactix 8 smartwatch with new tactical features

The tactix 8 is equipped with advanced features for shooting sports, military operations, and aviation professionals.

  • Advanced shooting analytics: Unlike traditional timers, the shot timer uses internal impulse detection for precise shot tracking. It also records biometric data, such as heart rate and stress levels, helping shooters monitor physical performance.
  • Applied Ballistics software: Preloaded on all tactix 8 models, this software provides advanced aiming solutions for long-range shooting.
  • Navigation for aviators: The watch offers Direct-To-Navigation, allowing users to plot a course directly to a location or waypoint. It also provides aviation weather updates, including radar data, wind speed, and visibility.
  • Jumpmaster mode: Military parachutists can use Jumpmaster for high-altitude (HAHO, HALO) and static jumps. The dual-positioning mode simultaneously displays MGRS and latitude/longitude coordinates.

Availability and pricing

The Garmin tactix 8 is available from today at S$2,119. It can be purchased from Garmin Brand Stores, Lazada, Shopee, the Garmin Online Store, Takashimaya, and selected retailers.
