Fitbit users now have until 2026 to migrate to Google accounts

Fitbit users now have until February 2, 2026, to migrate their accounts to Google accounts or risk losing their data and service access.

In a recent update to Fitbit users, Google has announced that it is extending the deadline for migrating Fitbit accounts to Google accounts. Initially set for 2025, the new deadline has been pushed back to February 2, 2026.

The transition to Google accounts

When Google acquired Fitbit in early 2021, the company informed users that they would need to switch their Fitbit accounts to Google accounts to continue using the service. This change is part of Google’s effort to integrate Fitbit’s services with its ecosystem. The original deadline for this transition was 2025, but Google has now provided an extension.

In an email sent to Fitbit users, Google confirmed the new deadline. “As we have previously shared, Fitbit is now a part of Google, and Fitbit account holders will need to transition to Google accounts to continue using Fitbit,” the email stated. The new deadline for this transition is now February 2, 2026.

Data retention and account deletion

While the deadline extension gives users more time, the email also serves as a reminder about what will happen after the deadline. Users who do not migrate their accounts will no longer be able to use Fitbit services. Additionally, Google stated that “your historical data will not be retained beyond February 2, 2026 (except as needed to comply with laws), and your account and data will be deleted.”

For users wishing to keep their Fitbit data, the company offers the option to download or delete it before the new deadline. This gives users more control over their information and allows them to decide based on their preferences before the data is permanently removed.

Impact on new devices and features

Since the acquisition, Google has implemented changes to new Fitbit devices and features. Starting in 2023, activating new Fitbit hardware, such as the Pixel Watch 2 and the Fitbit Charge 6, and accessing new health features require a Google account. Google has positioned this as a way to streamline the user experience, offering a unified login system for Fitbit users.

Furthermore, Fitbit users can now manage their health data through the Google Privacy Center. This integration is designed to make it easier for users to access and control their health information in one place.

As the new deadline approaches, Fitbit users should migrate their accounts to ensure continued access to their data and services. Whether or not you choose to make the switch, remember that you will have until February 2, 2026, to take action.
