Developers at Gamescom Reportedly Confirm PlayStation 5 Pro Release This Year

According to new rumours, Sony could unveil the PlayStation 5 Pro at the end of September and potentially release it later this year.

Sony is gearing up to release a new console later this year, with the anticipated launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, a GameSpot sister site, hinted that the gaming giant might soon unveil this upgraded version of its popular console.

Expected announcement in September

During a recent Game Mess Mornings show episode, Jeff Grubb suggested that Sony might reveal the PlayStation 5 Pro in an upcoming State of Play broadcast, which is expected to happen at the end of September. He mentioned that the PS5 Pro has been somewhat of an “open secret” at this year’s Gamescom, with many developers already preparing their games to run on the new hardware.

If the announcement occurs in late September, it aligns with Sony’s strategy to attract gamers during the busy holiday shopping season. If the PS5 Pro launch follows this schedule, it could hit the shelves by October or November.

Possible pricing and release strategy

Jeff Grubb speculated that the new console could be priced between S$600 and S$700. This estimation assumes that the Pro version would be an upgrade, justifying a higher price than the standard PS5. Given the recent fluctuations in gaming hardware prices, this would place the PS5 Pro in a similar range as other high-end consoles.

It is worth noting that the PlayStation 4 Pro was announced on September 7, 2016, and released shortly after, on November 10 of the same year. If Sony were to follow a similar timeline, the PS5 Pro could also see a late-year launch, allowing the company to capitalise on the festive season demand.

Rumours and expectations

While this remains speculation, the signs suggest a new console launch soon. Several developers at Gamescom have reportedly already begun optimising their games for the latest hardware, lending further weight to the rumours. The PS5 Pro is anticipated to offer enhanced performance and graphics capabilities, catering to gamers seeking a premium experience.

For now, gamers and industry watchers will have to wait for an official announcement from Sony. However, if these hints are anything to go by, the PlayStation 5 Pro could be on shelves sooner than you think, just in time for the year’s busiest shopping period.
