Creative’s new Sound Blaster G8 DAC offers seamless gaming and audio for multiple devices

Creative’s new Sound Blaster G8 DAC offers seamless connection for multiple devices with high-res audio and gaming features, perfect for complex setups.

Creative has long been a well-known name in the audio world, and their Sound Blaster series has set the standard for many years. Starting in the 90s with PC sound cards, Creative’s products have since evolved into modern solutions for audio enthusiasts. The latest addition to their lineup is the Sound Blaster G8, a new external DAC (digital-to-analogue converter) and amplifier that aims to improve your gaming and audio experience.

With the G8, Creative continues its tradition of combining cutting-edge audio technology with user-friendly features. As the first gaming DAC to include two USB-C ports, it’s designed to help you connect multiple devices to one system. Whether you’re using two PCs or a PC and a gaming console, the G8 offers a clutter-free solution to streamline your audio setup.

Designed for gamers and audiophiles

The Sound Blaster G8 is the latest in Creative’s external DAC range, succeeding previous models like the Sound Blaster GC7 and Sound BlasterX G6. A digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) converts digital audio signals into analogue sound, resulting in better audio quality. The G8’s built-in amplifier helps you get the most out of your headphones by improving sound clarity and volume.

What sets the G8 apart from its predecessors is its ability to connect two devices simultaneously through the two USB-C ports. It is particularly useful for gamers who use both PCs and consoles. This new feature makes the G8 a perfect audio solution for those with more complex setups. However, it’s important to note that the USB-C feature is only compatible with Sony’s PS4 and PS5 consoles. If you’re using an Xbox, use the HDMI ARC port instead.

The G8 includes a range of features designed to enhance the gaming experience for gamers. The GameVoice Mix knob lets you easily balance in-game audio with voice chat, ensuring you don’t miss any important conversations while gaming. It also includes Creative’s CrystalVoice technology, which reduces background noise and improves voice clarity during gameplay.

While the G8 brings many of the same features as the GC7 and G6, it doesn’t include the Super X-Fi (SXFI) technology that simulates multi-speaker audio through headphones. This means that features like SXFI BATTLE Mode, designed to enhance sound directionality in first-person shooter games, aren’t available on the G8.

Audio performance beyond gaming

Beyond gaming, the Sound Blaster G8 is also designed to deliver high-quality audio for other uses. The device uses Creative’s Xamp technology, a proprietary headphone amplifier that powers the left and right channels separately, improving sound clarity. The G8 supports a wide range of headphones, from high-impedance models like the Sennheiser HD600 to more sensitive in-ear monitors (IEMs), making it a versatile choice for audiophiles.

With a dynamic range of 130 dB and support for high-resolution audio playback up to 32-bit/384kHz, the G8 ensures exceptional sound quality across all audio types. Additionally, it offers virtual 7.1 surround sound, which provides an immersive experience whether you’re watching movies, listening to music, or playing games.

Regarding connectivity, the G8 has various ports to meet different needs. Along with the two USB-C ports, you’ll find an HDMI ARC port for gaming consoles, optical TOSLINK in and out ports, and 3.5mm line in and out jacks. There are also separate microphones and headphone jacks on the front of the device, making it easy to connect your gear without reaching around the back.

Overall, Creative’s Sound Blaster G8 is a versatile audio device aimed at gamers, audiophiles, and anyone looking to enhance their audio setup. With its dual USB-C ports, high-res audio support, and easy connectivity options, the G8 offers a powerful and flexible solution for those who want better sound quality across multiple devices.
