Corning introduces the new Gorilla Glass 7i for mid-range and budget smartphones

Corning introduces Gorilla Glass 7i for mid-range and budget smartphones, offering improved durability and scratch resistance.

Corning is extending its famous Gorilla Glass line to cater to the mid-range and budget smartphone market with the introduction of Gorilla Glass 7i.

Gorilla Glass 7i is not just tough but also a pocket-friendly solution. Designed to offer an affordable yet durable option for mid-range and entry-level smartphones, this new glass from Corning is significantly more challenging than the lithium-aluminosilicate glasses used by other manufacturers.

Corningโ€™s Gorilla Glass 7i is a testament to its superior durability. It can withstand drops from heights up to one metre onto surfaces similar to asphalt, a feat that other lithium aluminosilicate glasses tend to shatter under when dropped from just half a metre.

Enhanced scratch resistance

Gorilla Glass 7i not only stands up to drops, but it also fights off scratches with its enhanced resistance. Corning claims that it is up to twice as scratch-resistant as competing lithium-aluminosilicate glasses. This means your smartphone screen will stay clearer and more pristine, even with daily use, giving you peace of mind about its longevity.

David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass, highlighted the companyโ€™s dedication to innovation across all market segments. He stated, โ€œWe remain committed to helping our customers solve their toughest technological challenges across all market segments, from entry-level phones to their premium flagship devices. Gorilla Glass 7i is the latest example of Corningโ€™s vital role in developing glass technology that helps meet the evolving needs of every consumer.โ€

Oppoโ€™s early adoption

Corning also revealed that Oppo will be the first manufacturer to adopt Gorilla Glass 7i for its smartphones. An announcement from Oppo is anticipated soon, potentially showcasing the new glass on upcoming models set to be released in a specific month or quarter.

This expansion of the Gorilla Glass range signifies Corningโ€™s ongoing commitment to improving the durability and quality of smartphones across various price points. For smartphone manufacturers, Gorilla Glass 7i offers [specific benefits for manufacturers], ensuring that more consumers can benefit from advanced glass technology without a premium price tag.
