Apple’s fully modernised Siri might not arrive until 2027

Apple may not release a thoroughly modern version of Siri until 2027, with a major AI-powered upgrade expected to roll out in phases.

Apple is facing challenges in updating Siri to keep up with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company may not release a truly modernised, conversational version of Siri until iOS 20 arrives in 2027.

This delay suggests that it may take longer than expected to transform Siri into a fully AI-driven assistant while Apple progresses. However, Apple is not standing still. A new version of Siri is expected to launch in May, bringing long-awaited Apple Intelligence features announced nearly a year ago.

Apple’s phased approach to Siri upgrades

Apple is taking a step-by-step approach to improving Siri. According to Gurman, the upcoming version of Siri will have what he describes as “two brains.” One part will handle simple tasks like setting timers and making phone calls, while the other will process more complex queries using user data.

The company is reportedly working on a system called “LLM Siri,” which will merge these two capabilities. This upgrade is expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June and could launch in spring 2026. Only after this update will Apple be able to focus on modernising Siri.

When will Siri become truly conversational?

Despite the upcoming updates, it may take a while before Siri becomes a fully conversational AI assistant. Gurman suggests that Apple will need additional time after the 2026 release to refine Siri’s capabilities. If everything goes as planned, a truly modernised version of Siri may finally arrive in 2027.

This timeline shows that while Apple is committed to making Siri more advanced, it moves carefully to ensure that it delivers a seamless experience. Users can expect incremental improvements now, but a major AI-powered overhaul is still a few years away.
