Apple iPhone SE 4 dummy units reveal updated design and lack of Touch ID

Discover the new design and features of Apple’s iPhone SE 4, expected to launch in March 2025 with a starting price of around US$499.

Leaked images of dummy units claiming to represent the next-generation Apple iPhone SE have surfaced, giving you a glimpse of some expected features and design changes.

These dummy units suggest that Apple is making significant updates to its budget-friendly model, with a design based on the iPhone 14. While this isn’t a brand-new design for Apple, it’s a major leap for the SE line. The current iPhone SE design is based on the iPhone 8, first launched in 2017. After nearly eight years, an overhaul is long overdue.

A new design and upgraded camera

The most noticeable change in the dummy units is the rear camera module. It is larger, hinting at an upgrade from the 12MP sensor in the current SE to a 48MP sensor. This improvement would align the SE with higher-end iPhones, offering better image quality and advanced photography features.

The dummy unit doesn’t have a Touch ID button on the front. This suggests that Apple might ditch the long-standing fingerprint sensor entirely and replace it with Face ID for unlocking the device and making payments.

Features revealed by the dummy units

The side of the dummy units reveals several details about the device. There’s a physical SIM card slot, volume controls, and the traditional mute switch. However, the rumoured Action button, introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models, doesn’t seem to be included.

This design further supports the idea that Apple is repositioning the SE as a more modern and capable iPhone, bridging the gap between budget and premium devices.

Expected launch date and specifications

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone SE 4 officially in March 2025. Rumours suggest it will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, Apple’s A18 chip, and the company’s first in-house 5G modem. If true, these specs would make the iPhone SE 4 one of the most powerful budget options on the market. It may also include support for Apple Intelligence, enhancing its AI and machine-learning capabilities.

The price is estimated at around US$499 (~S$681). If these leaks are accurate, the new iPhone SE could redefine what you expect from an affordable smartphone, offering high-end features at a more accessible price.

While these dummy units provide a compelling preview of the iPhone SE 4, nothing is confirmed until Apple makes its official announcement. If the leaks are correct, this device could be a game-changer for the SE series and offer affordability, power, and modern features.
