Adobe launches free Photoshop app for iOS; Android version coming soon

Adobe has launched a free Photoshop app for iOS, with an Android version on the way. The app offers core editing tools and a premium plan.

Adobe has officially launched a free version of its Photoshop app for iPhone users, bringing powerful design and editing tools to mobile devices. The app, now available on the App Store, includes core Photoshop features such as layering, masking, and background removal. An Android version is in development and will be released soon.

A mobile-friendly Photoshop experience

The new app has been designed specifically for mobile devices, offering an intuitive interface that makes editing easy for users of all skill levels. Adobe has ensured that key features such as adding new objects, making targeted adjustments, and removing unwanted elements are all accessible in the mobile version.

According to Adobe, this free app allows users to edit all their images in one place without needing additional software. Those already using Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom will find that the new Photoshop app seamlessly integrates with their workflow, enabling them to edit across multiple devices.

Premium features are available through a subscription

For those looking for more advanced tools, Adobe has introduced a new “Photoshop Mobile & Web” plan, which provides access to premium mobile features and Photoshop on the web. This plan is available via the App Store, with pricing set at US$9.98 per month or around US$87 annually.

Additionally, Adobe confirmed that all current Photoshop paid plans will now include access to Photoshop on iPad, Photoshop on the web (supported on Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge), and the newly released Photoshop mobile app.

Competing alternatives

While Adobe’s offer of a free Photoshop app is a welcome addition for many users, the mobile photo editing space already has strong competitors. One popular alternative is Google Snapseed, which is free to download on iPhone and Android devices. Despite this, Adobe’s reputation and suite of advanced editing tools may make its mobile app a preferred choice for many creative professionals and casual users.

With this launch, Adobe is expanding its reach, making professional-grade photo editing more accessible. As Android users await their version of the app, iPhone users can start exploring Photoshop’s mobile capabilities today.
